Why Washington families choose online coaching
Washington, D.C. is the US capital and the core of the wider DMV metro, where federal, contractor, and professional schedules often stretch weekdays and push family activities into tight windows. Indian-American professionals are a visible part of the region’s workforce and school communities in the District and nearby suburbs.
Coaches teach from India. D.C. weekday evenings land overnight IST, so ChessWize does not staff them. The Eastern-time pilot offers Saturday-morning cohorts and a 7–8 AM ET pre-school weekday slot only. That is workable for many dual-career households that can protect an early or weekend hour better than a midweek drive across the District after work.
Honest pricing
ChessWize keeps one price list in Indian rupees (from ₹2,500 for 8 classes). Your card is simply charged the equivalent in your local currency at checkout, so there is no separate or inflated overseas rate. At recent rates that is roughly $4–12 per class depending on the plan; the exact charge follows the live exchange rate.

Beyond the moves — the habits parents notice at home and school.
Focus that carries over
A full game is a 30–60 minute concentration workout. Coaches build it up gradually — most parents notice it first at homework time.
Confidence from real play
Wins are earned against real opponents, and losses get reviewed calmly with the coach — both build a child who isn't afraid to think.
Progress you can actually see
Every week your coach sends a WhatsApp report: what was taught, what improved, what to practise next.

Real ChessWize families, in their own words.

Chess for kids in Washington
US Chess is the national federation for rated play, and the capital region’s schools and clubs participate in the broader East Coast scholastic circuit. Families here often treat chess as a structured skill alongside academics; a dedicated weekly coach supports that without inventing a physical ChessWize branch in the city. Washington has an established scholastic chess infrastructure: the nonprofit U.S. Chess Center has taught chess to roughly 40,000 schoolchildren across the National Capital Area since 1992 and runs the K-12 Area-Wide Scholastic Chess Tournament at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, while DC Scholastic Chess, a 501(c)(3), hosts rated scholastic tournaments for kids across the city.
Online vs local classes in Washington
Local clubs can be excellent for over-the-board practice when travel is easy. ChessWize has no offline centre in Washington. Online coaching suits apartment and condo life, variable federal-travel weeks, and parents who want English or Hindi instruction with a weekly WhatsApp progress note from the same coach.

We had been searching for a chess class online for our sons. Suddenly on instagram , we saw the ad for chesswize and connected with the them. The demo was really good and we started the classes for our almost 4.7 year old son. Ankit Rajoriya Sir engaged him really well , he very knowlegeble in his field. His classes are well structured and he teaches the concepts in simple and engaging manner. My son has started loving chess and has started applying the strategies. The environment of the class is really positive where kids feel safe asking questions and their queries are answered well. We truly appreciate his professionalism, dedication, and commitment towards his students. We highly recommend Chesswize and Ankit Rajoriya Sir to any parent looking for chess classes for their kids.

Coach Ankit has been amazing for my 8-year-old. He’s super friendly and explains chess rules in a way kids actually get. My son looks forward to every Chesswize class now. He motivates him to do better without any pressure, and I’ve seen fast improvement in both his game and confidence. Highly recommend Ankit for young beginners!

Online chess classes in Washington: common questions
How does ChessWize pricing work for Washington, DC families?
Fees stay on the India INR price list; checkout charges the USD equivalent at the live rate. We do not invent a separate DC dollar fee. Live classes, max six per batch or 1:1, refunds on unused sessions. Free 30-minute demo and level check with no payment up front.
Do you have a ChessWize classroom in DC, or is it only online?
Online only — no physical centre in the District or elsewhere. Your child joins a live FIDE-rated coach on video, ages 5–15, English or Hindi. If a school club already exists, keep it for social chess; ChessWize is the structured weekly plan. Programme Google rating is 5.0 from 21 reviews.
We sometimes travel for work outside the DMV — can classes continue?
As long as you keep Eastern-time weekend or 7–8 AM ET weekday slots and a quiet connection, the same coach session works from a hotel or relative’s house. We still do not offer Pacific or weekday-evening staffing. Confirm logistics on the free demo before you buy a package.
