What this Lucknow class is
ChessWize is a live online chess class for children aged 5–15, offered to families in Lucknow. A named coach teaches on a video call and shared digital board; this is not an in-person branch.
ChessWize is online only and has no local centre in Lucknow.
Who the format fits
It fits families with a beginner through a rated player who can keep a recurring IST time agreed after the level check, want a group capped at six or a one-to-one lesson, and want one regular coach. It does not fit a family that needs a walk-in classroom in Lucknow.
A chess coach your Lucknow child keeps, week after week
If you are raising a child in Gomti Nagar, Aliganj or Indira Nagar, you already know the problem: the school belt here rarely shares one convenient coaching address, and a fixed midweek hall means evening traffic decides your term. ChessWize runs live online classes instead, so the coach comes to your screen at a time you pick. Your child keeps the same coach every session, and you get a weekly WhatsApp report for every student.
The coaching is real. Hrdyansh Pandey, Tarun Gupta and Aryan Pal teach here, in batches of at most 4-6 similarly-rated students or fully 1:1. One Lucknow mother told us: "Aadvik hated sitting still for anything, and I thought a Zoom class would last two weeks max. It's been six months." In her video, Divya says her five-year-old 'gets easily distracted', and she praises 'the way he brings him back to understand the logic'. That is the kind of result we build for.
There is a ladder from first move to rated play: beginner, intermediate and advanced tracks, age groups for 5-8, 9-12 and 13-15, tournament prep and rating improvement. Uttar Pradesh Chess Association state events often rotate through Lucknow, so tournament readiness sits inside the plan instead of being an afterthought. Before you pay anything, book the complimentary 30-min level check before you commit. If it is not right, you stop: a Lucknow monthly plan allows a full refund within 48 hours of enrolling, and the same coach stays with your child throughout.
Chess in Lucknow: Rapid play and a girls championship
Lucknow Chess Association organised the UP State FIDE Rating Rapid Chess Championship 2025-26 with UPCSA on 4 to 5 February 2026 at Chauk Stadium. The city also hosted the UP State Chess Championship Under-17 Girls 2025-26 at Eram Public College, C Block, Indra Nagar, from 21 to 23 March 2025. UPCSA's registered office is in Sector-13, Indra Nagar. Treat both championships as dated examples when asking the district association how a child enters state play.

Where to play
From online class to a first tournament
- Ask Lucknow Chess Association how a child is put forward for a state Rapid or age-group championship.
- Use the March 2025 Under-17 Girls championship at Eram Public College as a dated example when checking girls age-group eligibility.
- Prepare a state entry through the district association, as the UP championship prospectus requires.
- In online games, practise choosing a move without prompting, then repeat that habit with a board and clock.

Class times for Lucknow
All class times run on India Standard Time (IST), which Lucknow follows year-round, so there is no daylight-saving shift to track. Coach availability windows include 9:30 AM-1:30 PM IST, 11:30 AM-3:30 PM IST, 4:30-9:30 PM IST and 5:30-8:30 PM IST across the week. Evening slots after school and weekend morning slots are both covered, so a full CBSE or ICSE term and UP event weekends can fit without moving your child's routine.

Eleven checks to make before enrolling
Each answer below is tied to the section that carries its proof, so a parent can verify the detail rather than rely on a slogan.
-
Check 1
Who teaches my child, and are they rated?
Your child is taught by a coach: Hrdyansh Pandey, Tarun Gupta or Aryan Pal. Instruction is live, in English or Hindi, and the same coach stays with your child every week rather than rotating through a pool.
See coaches -
Check 2
How many children share the coach?
Group batches are strictly 4-6 similarly-rated students, placed by working level so peer play is fair and feedback is personal. If you want the coach entirely on your child's game, the 1:1 Analyst Protocol maps their current play and targets the highest-value gap each session.
See class size -
Check 3
Is there a real curriculum from beginner to rated play?
Yes. There is a written roadmap from beginner through intermediate and advanced, plus age tracks for 5-8, 9-12 and 13-15, tournament prep and rating improvement. A beginner learns the board, finishes complete games and finds basic tactics; advanced students refine repertoire and convert training into events.
See the curriculum -
Check 4
How will I know it is working?
You receive a weekly WhatsApp report for every student, so you can see exactly what was covered even if you do not play yourself. Coaches review your child's real games, name the rating bottleneck where relevant, and adjust the plan around exams or upcoming UP events.
See progress reports -
Check 5
Is it safe, and can I see the classes?
Classes are live online from your home, so your child never travels to a hall after dark. Batches are small and stable with the same coach weekly, and your WhatsApp report shows what happened in class each week, so you always know where your child was and what they learned.
Read safety policy -
Check 6
Can we try before paying?
Yes. Book the complimentary 30-min demo with no payment first. It works as a level check: the coach maps your child's current game, suggests the right track, and you decide afterwards. Nothing is charged before you have seen a real session with a real coach.
See the level check -
Check 7
What if we stop?
Monthly enrolment in Lucknow still allows a full refund within 48 hours of enrolling, then a pro-rated refund minus sessions attended until the 3rd session, after which the current month is not refunded while cancelling stops later billing. Term study can be left within 7 days of enrolling with a pro-rated refund minus sessions already attended.
See refund terms -
Check 8
Will the timings fit our week?
Coach windows run across the day in IST, including 9:30 AM-1:30 PM, 11:30 AM-3:30 PM, 4:30-9:30 PM and 5:30-8:30 PM. Lucknow stays on IST year-round with no DST shift, so after-school evenings and weekend mornings both work, and load can be reduced around exams.
See class times -
Check 9
What does it cost, exactly?
You start with the starter pack: ₹2,500 for 8 classes. After that, regular plans run from ₹375 to ₹1,000 per class depending on the plan. Both 1:1 and groups of at most six include the weekly WhatsApp report, and refunds on the starter pack follow the published refund policy.
See fees -
Check 10
Is there a path to tournaments?
Lucknow Chess Association was listed as organiser of the UP State FIDE Rating Rapid Championship at Chauk Stadium on 4-5 February 2026. The Under-17 Girls championship was listed at Eram Public College for March 2025. Ask Lucknow Chess Association about later city play, and confirm what that event requires. On average, students reach a first tournament in about four months after starting.
See results -
Check 11
What do I have to do at home?
Very little is asked of you. A short, focused practice beats a long block: for ages five to eight, setting up the board or solving two familiar positions is enough, and you stop while they still want more. Older children save one serious game a week, and a photo of a confusing position gives the coach a starting point.

★★★★★
Honestly, I was skeptical about online chess coaching.
“Aadvik hated sitting still for anything, and I thought a Zoom class would last two weeks max. It's been six months. Last Sunday his class teacher called just to ask what changed — his attention in maths has jumped. He now does his puzzles before I'm up. Coach Arjun has the patience I don't.”

The resilience piece was unexpected — and the real win.
“We signed up for chess. What Ishita got was emotional self-regulation. Month one was all about learning to lose without falling apart. By month three she was analysing her own games after tournaments, pointing out where she'd blundered, calmly. Her results followed. But honestly, the composure is what I'll remember.”

Ankit is an exceptional coach who combines deep chess knowledge with patience, encouragement, and a genuine passion for teaching. He explains concepts in a simple and engaging manner, making it easy for young learners to understand and apply new strategies. His lessons are well-structured, interactive, and motivating. Since joining Chesswize and learning under Ankit’s guidance, we have noticed a significant improvement in our son’s chess skills, critical thinking, concentration, and confidence. Ankit creates a positive learning environment where children feel comfortable asking questions and are encouraged to continuously improve. We truly appreciate his dedication, professionalism, and commitment to each student’s growth. Read on Google →Why the online format fits Lucknow
Lucknow is Uttar Pradesh's administrative capital, with a mix of CBSE, ICSE, and state-board schools.
From Gomti Nagar to Aliganj and Indira Nagar, few families share one convenient coaching address — live online classes put the coach on screen at a time you pick rather than one traffic dictates.
Local chess context
Uttar Pradesh Chess Association state events often rotate through Lucknow alongside other UP cities, so juniors here who want to move beyond house games need a plan that fits a full school week.
Lucknow's school belt — Gomti Nagar, Indira Nagar, Aliganj, and older central wards — rarely shares a single convenient coaching strip, so a live online slot is often the only plan that survives a full CBSE or ICSE term between UP events.
Online and offline choices
A good offline class in Lucknow is worth keeping if it is nearby, small, and stable through the school year. Online wins when home and school sit in different parts of the city, when evening traffic makes a fixed hall unreliable, or when you want a coach, a six-seat cap, and a weekly parent report. State and school events can still be played OTB.

Questions from parents in Lucknow
Has Lucknow hosted a girls age-group state championship?
Yes, the UP State Chess Championship Under-17 Girls 2025-26 took place at Eram Public College from 21 to 23 March 2025. Its address was C Block, Indra Nagar, Lucknow. Use that dated event as a reference when asking about girls competitions, and confirm eligibility in the notice for the event you choose.
Where was the 2025-26 state Rapid championship held?
Lucknow Chess Association organised it with UPCSA on 4 to 5 February 2026 at Chauk Stadium, Chauk, Lucknow. The prospectus said the top two players from that Rapid represent Uttar Pradesh in the National Rapid Chess Championship. Ask the district association about later Rapid notices rather than treating that February edition as an open date to arrive at.
Where is the state chess association's registered office?
UPCSA gives its registered office as 548, Sector-13, Indra Nagar, Lucknow. It is the official governing body for chess in Uttar Pradesh. For state championship entry, the relevant prospectus directs families through the concerned district association, which must submit or recommend entries, including special entries.
How much do online chess classes for kids in Lucknow cost?
Plans start from ₹375 per class for ages 5–15. Live 1:1 and groups of at most six include the same coach each week, English or Hindi instruction, and a WhatsApp parent report. Monthly plans: full refund within 48 hours of enrolling, then a pro-rated refund minus sessions attended before the third session. After the third session, no refund for the current billing period; cancel to stop future charges. Term packages (3 or 6 months): pro-rated refund minus sessions attended within 7 days of enrolling. After 7 days, no refund; remaining sessions can be completed within the term. A free 30-minute demo requires no payment first.
Is online chess good for Lucknow kids, and do you have an offline centre here?
Coaching is live online only — ChessWize does not operate an offline centre in Lucknow. A coach teaches in real time and stays weekly. For families split across Gomti Nagar, Aliganj, and Indira Nagar, that is often more workable than a single midweek venue.
Can a Lucknow student prepare for UP Chess Association events with online classes?
Yes. The coach builds a weekly plan around calculation and openings, then reviews games after school or open events. Batch size stays at six or below so feedback is personal. Parents follow progress on WhatsApp and can adjust load around exams when UP calendar rounds approach.
How do I know my child will keep the same coach every week?
The assigned coach teaches every session and does not rotate. Hrdyansh Pandey, Tarun Gupta and Aryan Pal teach in English or Hindi, and stay with your child's batch or 1:1 track for the long term, so trust and continuity build instead of resetting each term.
What happens in the free demo class?
It is a complimentary 30-min level check before you commit. The coach plays through positions with your child, identifies their working level, and recommends beginner, intermediate, advanced, tournament prep or a 1:1 track. You pay nothing and decide afterwards whether the fit is right.
Can my child prepare for UP Chess Association events online?
Yes. The coach builds a weekly plan around calculation and openings, then reviews real games after school or open events. Tournament prep includes rehearsing event conditions and practical checks like reporting times and equipment, so your child arrives prepared rather than cramming new systems at the last minute.
Does online chess actually help with school focus?
Parents tell us it does. One mother says in her video: 'I can see the improvement in her concentration and the confidence level.' That observation should not be treated as evidence of improved school performance. Small batches, one clear weekly idea and steady coaching build attention that shows up beyond the board.
Which plan should we choose, group or 1:1?
Groups of 4-6 similarly-rated students suit most children: peer play, group calculation and shared tactical work keep energy high. Choose the 1:1 Analyst Protocol if your child needs targeted repair of one specific gap, is preparing for a rating jump, or plays better without an audience.
Is there an offline ChessWize centre in Lucknow?
No, coaching is live online only. For families spread across Gomti Nagar, Aliganj and Indira Nagar, that is usually more workable than one midweek venue, because no one sits in evening traffic. State and school events are still played over the board, with the coach preparing your child for them.
When can my child attend a class each week?
Coach availability windows span the day in IST: mornings from 9:30 AM-1:30 PM, afternoons such as 12:30-5:30 PM, and evenings running to 9:30 PM. Lucknow keeps IST through the year with no daylight-saving switch, so a slot agreed now holds its clock time across the school term.
How much practice does my child need between classes?
Keep it short and purposeful. A board set-up task, two familiar positions or one slow game gives the coach real evidence, and it beats a long unstructured block. Stop while your child still wants to play, and photograph any position that caused an argument or confusion so the next lesson opens with it.
Will my child need to know chess already before joining?
No. The beginner roadmap begins with the board and legal moves, then your child plays a full game, applies opening principles, and starts finding basic tactics and simple endings. The free 30-min level check places your child on the right rung first, so a complete newcomer and a school-team player never sit in the same batch.
