From online class to a first tournament

- Complete UPCSA registration at upchess.org/register.php and AICF registration at aicf.in/players, keeping the 1 April to 31 March validity in mind.
- Try a local over-the-board outing first, such as a Classes 6 to 8 school meet or the under-13 section of a district open like the April 2026 event at HBTU.
- For a UP age-group championship, the 2026-27 prospectus requires the concerned district association to submit or recommend the entry, including special entries.
- Play rated games online at a fixed time each week, then repeat the same time control on a physical board with a clock before travelling to a hall.

If school exams, a family move or a change of interest interrupts training, you can pause and the remaining sessions are kept.

What do I have to do at home?
Keep it light and consistent. For younger children, five to ten focused minutes of board setup or two familiar positions beats a long block. Children in the middle age groups can keep one slower game each week and mark the moment they felt unsure, then bring a single question to class. You do not need to coach chess yourself; the coach sets everything.
