For a parent looking beyond practice games, Uttarakhand's state age-group championship gives a concrete example of the competition route. The 2026 edition was held from 20 June, after an announcement that listed Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, Under-15 and Under-17 sections for players from all districts. That announcement also described a route to national championships for the first two players in each class. Does my child need separate district and state registrations?
AICF's notice introduced a single pan-India player registration from 1 April 2021, with no separate district or state association registration. Its registration page gives an April-to-March validity period. For a particular competition, read the entry circular as well, so you can distinguish player registration from entering that event.
How did the state championship connect to national events?
The announcement for the 20th state-level championship said the first- and second-place players in each class would represent Uttarakhand at national championships. That was the stated route for that 2026 edition, whose listed sections were Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, Under-15 and Under-17. Ask Dev Bhoomi Chess Association for the selection rules of a later championship.
