How many children share the coach?
Batches are capped at 4-6 similarly-rated students, so your child gets speaking time in every session rather than blending into a crowd. Peer play inside the batch is deliberate: group calculation and team-based tactics keep stronger students stretched. Is there a real curriculum from beginner to rated play?
ChessWize runs a written ladder from first moves to rated play: beginner, intermediate and advanced tracks, plus age bands for 5-8, 9-12 and 13-15. Each track has a staged roadmap, so a beginner learns the board and legal moves and finishes a complete game, while an advanced student deepens calculation and converts training into events. How will I know it is working?

If life gets in the way, a ChessWize monthly plan from Plano still allows a full refund within 48 hours of enrolling, then a pro-rated refund minus sessions attended before the 3rd class. Is there a path to tournaments?
The CDA Chess Club in Collin County has 96 players competing in USCF-rated tournaments. The 5th Annual CDA All School Tournament was listed for 20 February 2027 at the CDA Collin County Gym. Ask the Texas Chess Association about later scholastic play, and check the chosen event's requirements. On average, students reach a first tournament in about four months.

What do I have to do at home?
Very little, especially at first. For ages 5-8, five to ten focused minutes a few times a week is plenty: set up the board, review one piece, or play one unhurried family game where the child explains their moves. Older children should keep one serious game a week and arrive with an honest question. The coach supplies homework matched to the lesson.
