Frisco families choosing in-person chess have two academies with their own venues in town: Texas Chess Center on Independence Parkway and GM Annakov Chess Academy on John Hickman Parkway, with school chess sections from The Knight School Dallas and dated library chess sessions at Frisco Public Library. ChessWize, which publishes this guide, teaches online only and has no center in Frisco, TX; it appears once below, clearly labelled as the online option. The sections below give addresses and schedules with published fees for each in-person choice, plus the local tournament pathway and a checklist for picking the right fit.

The online option: ChessWize

ChessWize, the academy that publishes this guide, is an online-only chess academy for children. It has no centre in Frisco, TX, so it is not one of the in-person options in this guide. Classes are taught live over video by a coach, and a child keeps the same coach every week.

Online tends to fit when

  • the weekly drive is the thing that keeps breaking the routine
  • your child needs a coach at their level, not the nearest batch
  • cost per class matters more than the clubhouse

In-person tends to fit when

  • your child will not sit in front of a screen for a whole class
  • a strong club or academy is a short drive away
  • playing other children across a real board is the main goal

In-person chess classes and clubs in Frisco, TX#

  • Texas Chess Center, 11547 Independence Pkwy #530, Frisco. The venue page lists 1-hour group classes with flexible schedules, youth open play on Mondays (6:30-8:30pm), all-ages open play on Wednesdays (6:30-8:30pm), a Saturday Beginner Swiss (1:00-5:30pm) and a Sunday Swiss for players rated 1000 and above (listed there as Sunday 2:00-7:00pm). Its hours block lists Monday 4:30-8:30pm, Tuesday 5:00-9:30pm, Wednesday 4:30-8:30pm, Saturday 9:30am-6:30pm and Sunday 10:00am-7:30pm, with Thursday marked Closed. That same page marks Friday Closed and also lists Frisco Quick on Friday, 6:30-8:30pm, so this guide does not state a Friday schedule. Seasonal week-long camps are listed for students aged 5-17. The Frisco page and the group-classes page print no dollar amount (checked 3 October 2026). The class registration page does, for the Dallas division (Plano, Frisco and Irving): Basic $118/month for one class a week, Standard $158/month and Premier $218/month, which that page calls $60 more than Standard. Each plan includes a 10-day trial of 1 in-person class and 1 play night if cancelled before day 10. The Saturday Beginner Swiss entry is $30.00. The Sunday Frisco Swiss entry is $35.00.
  • GM Annakov Chess Academy, 8668 John Hickman Pkwy, unit 304, Frisco. The about page says all coaches are grandmasters. Hours there are daily 9am-8:30pm except Thursdays (9am-1pm). The homepage says training takes place in groups of 4-6 people. A separate group-lesson page says minimum 2 students and maximum 6, so this guide does not treat one group size as the only figure. That group-lesson page prints a fee of $35 per student per class (Friday 4-5pm beginners, 5-6pm intermediate) at the Frisco address; the announcement itself has no class year. Its Summer 2026 camps ran 9am-3pm at $400 per week or $100 per day, with a maximum of 10 children per camp and a 20% sibling discount. The last listed camp week is August 10-14, 2026.
  • Frisco Public Library: Community Chess Club, Frisco Library, 8000 Dallas Pkwy. The next listed session (checked 3 October 2026) is the Community Chess Club on Sunday, October 25, 2026, 2:00-3:00pm, in Community Event Room B, with the same series also on November 22 and December 20, 2026. It describes an hour of open play for all levels and ages, and lists adults, children 6-12 and teens. It does not describe lessons from an experienced competitor. No fee field is shown on that event page.
  • The Knight School Dallas, elementary chess at named schools. The page says class meets at the child’s school or online, and its summary line says 1 hour and 15 minutes. The rows are not all that length or all after school: Challenger School (Independence Campus) is Tuesday 4:05-4:45pm, City-Wide Chess Party is Tuesday 5:00-7:00pm and Armstrong Elementary is Thursday 7:00-7:50am. Listed dates run from September 2026 through May 2027. No prices are printed on this schedule page (checked 3 October 2026). The Knight School’s Dallas page lists Montessori School at Starcreek at 915 Ridgeview Dr, Allen, TX 75013, and a preschool site at Eldorado Montessori, 11600 Teel Pkwy, Frisco, TX 75034. Challenger’s own page places the Independence Campus at 10145 Independence Parkway, Plano, on the boundary between Frisco and Plano. Confirm the current row for the school you need.

These options are listed in no particular order, and inclusion here is not an endorsement.

What in-person chess classes cost in Frisco, TX#

Published figures below are copied from each provider’s own page, with the unit that page uses.

Annakov’s Summer 2026 camp page lists $400 per week or $100 per day (9am-3pm with a lunch hour from 12-1pm, maximum 10 children). The listed camp weeks are Monday-Friday blocks, so five days at the daily rate are 5 × $100 = $500, and the weekly rate is $100 less than five single days. The published 20% sibling discount on a week is 0.80 × $400 = $320. Those camp weeks ran from June 1 through August 14, 2026. A separate group-lesson page prints $35 per student per class (minimum 2 students, maximum 6) and does not give a class year.

Texas Chess Center’s class registration page prints Dallas-division group plans for Plano, Frisco and Irving: Basic $118/month (one class a week), Standard $158/month and Premier $218/month. The Premier card says it is $60 more than Standard, and $158 + $60 = $218. The same page says a new member’s 10-day trial is 1 in-person class and 1 play night, with no charge if cancelled before day 10, and $25 off per month with a sibling add-on. Its Frisco and group-classes pages print no dollar amount (checked 3 October 2026); group-classes links to that registration page under View Pricing. The Saturday Frisco Beginner Swiss is $30.00 for four rounds (1:00-5:30pm), with an optional $15 play-up when a rating is within 150 points of the higher section. The Sunday Frisco Swiss is $35.00 (2:00-7:00pm) for players rated at least 1000.

The Knight School Dallas elementary schedule page shows no prices (checked 3 October 2026). The Frisco Public Library Community Chess Club event page for October 25, 2026 shows no fee field (checked 3 October 2026).

Library sessions and the trial#

Frisco Public Library’s upcoming Community Chess Club page (Sunday, October 25, 2026, 2:00-3:00pm, with further dates on November 22 and December 20) describes an hour of open play for all levels and ages, including children 6-12, teens and adults, and shows no fee field. The June 6, 2026 “Rook and Roll” page, which mentioned lessons from an experienced competitor, is marked as already occurred. Texas Chess Center’s class registration page says the 10-day trial is 1 in-person class and 1 play night, with no charge if cancelled before day 10.

Tournaments and ratings for kids in Texas#

Texas organizes its chess in two layers, and Frisco kids can use both. Statewide, the Texas Chess Association describes itself as serving Texas players since 1935; its homepage lists the Southwest Open, the Texas State and Amateur Championship, a scholastic league and a junior chess meeting. The dated 2026 items visible there on 3 October 2026 have already taken place: the 92nd Southwest Open was September 4-7, 2026. The 81st Texas State and Amateur Championship was May 22-25, 2026. The homepage also shows bidding open for 2027 events. These are events a progressing junior works toward over years, not the place to start.

The starting line is local. Texas Chess Center’s scholastic program hosts tournaments on school campuses and at its own locations, with seasonal scholastic events through the year. The editions named on that page: Autumn, Thanksgiving, Bellaire Fall, Bellaire Winter, New Years, MLK, President’s Day and Spring. At the Frisco venue itself, the weekly calendar includes rated tournaments. The Saturday Beginner Swiss (1:00-5:30pm, G/30;d5, 30 minutes per player with a 5-second delay, over 4 rounds) runs Under-1000 and Under-500 sections restricted to players below 1000 on the day, with medals for the top three in each section. That combination of a low rating ceiling and medals makes it the natural first rated event for a Frisco beginner. A separate Sunday Swiss serves players rated 1000 and above, giving improvers somewhere to go next without leaving town.

How we chose and checked these options#

We included in-person chess options for children that have a public page naming a venue in or near Frisco, TX and a current schedule, fee or session date. Every fact on this page comes from the provider’s own page or an official chess federation page, opened on 3 October 2026. Fees are copied as published. Where this guide turns a monthly or session fee into a per-class figure, it shows the sum. The options are not ranked, and no provider paid to be listed. ChessWize, which publishes this guide, teaches online only and appears separately as the online option.

A coach’s checklist for choosing#

  1. Map the drive before you commit. Both academies sit inside Frisco: Texas Chess Center off Independence Parkway and Annakov off John Hickman Parkway. The Knight School meets at individual Dallas-area schools. Trial the drive at class time, because a twice-weekly class across town gets old fast.
  2. Ask about group size. Annakov’s homepage says groups of 4-6 people, and its group-lesson page says a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6, so ask which limit applies to the class you want. For every other option, ask how many children share one coach before signing up, and how groups are split by strength.
  3. Find out who actually teaches. Annakov states its coaches are grandmasters. Elsewhere, ask whether your child will learn from a titled player, a regular tournament coach or rotating assistants, and whether that person stays with the group all season.
  4. Take a trial before paying for a term. Texas Chess Center advertises a 10-Day Trial through its registration page. Annakov and The Knight School list no trial on the pages checked, so ask each directly what a first visit looks like.
  5. Check tournament support. If your child wants rated games, confirm the venue runs them or coaches toward them. Texas Chess Center’s Frisco calendar already includes a weekly rated beginner Swiss, so ask how students are prepared for their first event.

In-person or online in Frisco, TX?#

In-person classes put a board and other players in the same room. Texas Chess Center’s Frisco page lists a Saturday rated beginner tournament. The trade-off is traveling to the venue at a set time and paying the fee that provider prints for the class, camp or event. Lessons without a commute remove the drive and widen the choice of coaches, but they ask more focus from young children and miss the club-room atmosphere that keeps many kids in the game. Neither format suits every child, so weigh attention span, schedule and love of the social side. For a balanced view, read our online vs offline chess classes guide before deciding.
