What this Jorhat class is
ChessWize is a live online chess class for children aged 5–15, offered to families in Jorhat. A named coach teaches on a video call and shared digital board; this is not an in-person branch.
ChessWize is online only and has no local centre in Jorhat.
Who the format fits
It fits families with a beginner through a rated player who can keep a recurring IST time agreed after the level check, want a group capped at six or a one-to-one lesson, and want one regular coach. It does not fit a family that needs a walk-in classroom in Jorhat.
A fixed chess hour that fits Jorhat family life
Jorhat families often live far from any single coach address, and school runs already cross garden roads and town markets. Live online chess puts a coach on a fixed home hour, so your child's training does not depend on whose estate or colony happens to host a teacher this term. The slot is short, coached, and predictable, which is the same standard you apply to serious tuition.
Your child keeps the same coach every session, no rotation. Coaching runs from beginner levels through intermediate and advanced work, with tournament prep and rating improvement for children who want to compete. Batches are small and skill-matched, so a quiet learner is never lost in a crowd, and every child is placed by working level rather than by age alone.
A parent of a six-year-old says, 'Earlier he was not able to think rightly and take the right move.' A weekly WhatsApp report still goes out for every student, covering what was taught that week. That weekly WhatsApp report for every student is a standing practice, alongside a complimentary 30-min level check before you commit and a 48-hour refund window on monthly plans.
Tea-garden calendars and festival seasons in Upper Assam shift weekend travel. A weekday home live class keeps chess stable when your family is moving between estate and town, and the free demo lets you test the connection and your child's focus before you pay anything at all.

Eleven checks to make before enrolling
Each answer below is tied to the section that carries its proof, so a parent can verify the detail rather than rely on a slogan.
-
Check 1
Who teaches my child, and are they rated?
Your child is taught by coaches, including Hrdyansh Pandey, Tarun Gupta and Aryan Pal. Every session is live with a coach, and the same coach stays with your child week after week.
See coaches -
Check 2
How many children share the coach?
Group batches are strictly 4-6 similarly-rated students, so peer play stays intense and every child is heard. If you want full attention, the 1:1 Analyst Protocol gives your child a private coach who maps their game and targets the highest-value gap each session.
See class size -
Check 3
Is there a real curriculum from beginner to rated play?
Yes. There is a clear ladder from beginner through intermediate and advanced to tournament prep and rating improvement, with age tracks for ages 5-8, 9-12 and 13-15. Beginners start with the board, legal moves and opening principles, then work up to basic tactics and endings.
See the curriculum -
Check 4
How will I know it is working?
You receive a weekly WhatsApp report for every student, so you can see exactly what was covered each week even if you do not play chess yourself. Coaches review real games your child brings to class, and progress shows up in calculation, composure and, when relevant, rating trends.
See progress reports -
Check 5
Is it safe, and can I see the classes?
Classes are live online sessions your child attends from home, with no physical venue to travel to. You can see what is covered through the weekly WhatsApp report, and you are welcome to sit nearby, especially in the first sessions, so you know exactly how the coaching works.
Read safety policy -
Check 6
Can we try before paying?
Yes. The complimentary 30-min level check before you commit is a single free demo session in which the coach also assesses your child's level. Use it to test your internet at the booked hour and to see whether your child stays engaged before buying any multi-week package.
See the level check -
Check 7
What if we stop?
For Jorhat families on a monthly plan, a full refund applies within 48 hours of enrolling, then a pro-rated refund minus sessions attended until the 3rd session, after which the current month is not refunded and cancelling stops later billing. Plan terms are explained before you pay, including the 7-day pro-rated refund on 3-month and 6-month packages.
See refund terms -
Check 8
Will the timings fit our week?
Slots run on IST across the day: morning windows such as 9:30 AM-1:30 PM IST and 10:30 AM-2:30 PM IST, afternoon windows such as 12:30-5:30 PM IST, and evening windows such as 4:30-9:30 PM IST and 5:30-8:30 PM IST. A fixed weekly hour stays stable through garden calendars and festival seasons.

Check 9
What does it cost, exactly?
The starter pack is ₹2,500 for 8 classes. Regular plans after the starter pack run from ₹375 to ₹1,000 per class depending on the plan. These are two different things: the pack rate is an entry offer, and regular per-class pricing depends on the format you choose.

Check 10
Is there a path to tournaments?
Jorhat District Chess Association organised the 48th All Assam Inter-District Rating Open at Jagannath Barooah College in July 2025, with 283 players. An inter-school tournament for classes VI to VIII was listed in August 2025. Ask the association about later play and check that event's requirements. On average, students reach a first tournament in about four months after starting.

Check 11
What do I have to do at home?
Very little is asked of you. Short focused practice at home helps: a few minutes with the board for younger children, one saved slow game and a question for older ones. Keep the device and notebook ready before the session, and send the coach any position that caused confusion at home.

Honestly, I was skeptical about online chess coaching.
“Aadvik hated sitting still for anything, and I thought a Zoom class would last two weeks max. It's been six months. Last Sunday his class teacher called just to ask what changed — his attention in maths has jumped. He now does his puzzles before I'm up. Coach Arjun has the patience I don't.”

She used to cry after every loss. Not anymore.
“Anika was playing 'casually' on chess.com and hanging pieces every game. First month the coach just drilled Checks-Captures-Threats. The dashboard is what sold me though. I don't know chess, but I can see exactly what she covered each week. Her play sharpened on its own by week eight.”

Coach Ankit has been amazing for my 8-year-old. He’s super friendly and explains chess rules in a way kids actually get. My son looks forward to every Chesswize class now. He motivates him to do better without any pressure, and I’ve seen fast improvement in both his game and confidence. Highly recommend Ankit for young beginners!

Jorhat is a historic cultural centre of Upper Assam, long associated with the tea industry and with institutions that served the former Ahom heartland. It remains an education and research hub for the surrounding tea-garden and rural districts.
Tea-estate and town families often live far from a single coach address, and school runs already cross garden roads and town markets. Live online chess puts a coach on a fixed home hour so coaching does not depend on whose estate or colony happens to host a teacher.
Local chess context
Upper Assam schools balance board exams with a strong regional cultural calendar; extracurriculars compete for the same after-school window. Chess works when the slot is short, coached, and predictable — the same standard parents apply to serious tuition.
Tea-garden calendars and festival seasons in Upper Assam shift weekend travel; a weekday home live class keeps chess stable when the family is moving between estate and town rather than sitting next to a permanent academy.
Online and offline choices
Offline is fine if a reliable teacher is close to your ward and your child thrives in a room with peers. Online is usually better for garden-side homes, for dual-career town families, or when you want coaching that local supply cannot always provide every term.

Questions from parents in Jorhat
Who organised the 48th All Assam Inter-District Rating Open in Jorhat?
ChessBase India reported that Jorhat District Chess Association organised the event at Jagannath Barooah College from 20 to 24 July 2025. It was a nine-round rating tournament with 283 players from districts of Assam. A Jorhat player scored 7.5/9. That is a district-run open on a college campus, not a school-only room. Read the pairing rules on the notice, because an inter-district rating event is longer than a class VI-to-VIII school day.
Is there a school chess event in Jorhat below class IX?
Chess-results lists JORHAT DISTRICT INTER SCHOOL CHESS TOURNAMENT 2025 VI TO VIII, last updated 29 August 2025, and names Army Public School among clubs on the starting rank. That listing is evidence of a middle-school section in Jorhat. It does not by itself name the hall. Ask Jorhat District Chess Association for the circular that matches classes VI to VIII, and treat the college rating open as a later step once the child can manage nine rounds.
How does a Jorhat result connect to the state association in Guwahati?
AICF lists All Assam Chess Association at Store Gate Pandu near Buddha Mandir, Guwahati-781012. Jorhat District Chess Association ran the inter-district open in Jorhat, which is a district event inside that Assam structure. National school and Under-7 prospectuses in the verified set route entries through the state association. For a child in Jorhat, that means the district notice for local play and the Guwahati affiliate for anything labelled as a national championship.
What is the cost of ChessWize online chess classes in Jorhat?
From ₹375 per class for ages 5–15. Live sessions with a coach in private or small-batch format (max six), same coach weekly, WhatsApp parent updates, and a pro-rated refund minus sessions attended before the 3rd monthly class. Free 30-minute demo with no payment first.
Is there a ChessWize offline centre in Jorhat?
There is no ChessWize physical centre in Jorhat. Coaching is live online only. We do not claim a tea-town campus or franchise room. School clubs remain useful for social play; our product is remote live mentoring with a fixed weekly coach.
Can a child living on a tea estate outside Jorhat town join?
Yes if video internet is reliable at the booked hour. Many estate homes already use online classes for school support; chess uses the same pattern. Test the connection and the child’s focus in the free demo before you buy a multi-week package.
What does ChessWize cost for a Jorhat family?
There is an entry pack of ₹2,500 covering 8 classes, and after that regular plans are priced per class from ₹375 up to ₹1,000 depending on the format you choose. Refunds on the starter pack follow the published refund policy, and the free 30-minute demo comes first with no payment at all.
Can my child join from a tea estate outside Jorhat town?
Yes, if video internet is reliable at the booked hour. Many estate homes already use online classes for school support, and chess follows the same pattern. Test both the connection and your child's focus in the free demo before you buy a multi-week package.
Is there a ChessWize centre in Jorhat?
No. Coaching is live online only, and we do not claim a tea-town campus or franchise room. School clubs remain useful for social play; what we provide is remote live mentoring with a fixed weekly coach, which suits garden-side homes and town families alike.
Will the class timings work around school and tuition?
Yes. Windows run from 9:30 AM-1:30 PM IST in the morning through 12:30-5:30 PM IST and evening slots up to 5:30-8:30 PM IST. Because everything runs on IST with no daylight shifting, the hour you book stays the same all year, which keeps chess stable through festival seasons.
How do I know my child is actually improving?
You get a weekly WhatsApp report for every student, so you can see what was covered even if you do not play chess. A parent of a five-year-old says, 'In one month, my son has shown immense progress in the game of chess.' Improvement also shows in calmer play and better results at school and on the board.
Who will be teaching my child each week?
Sessions are led by experienced coaches such as Hrdyansh Pandey, Tarun Gupta and Aryan Pal. Your child keeps the same coach every session with no rotation, so the coach learns your child's habits, strengths and recurring errors instead of starting over each week.
Does my child need to know chess already?
No. Beginners start by learning the board and legal moves, then finish a complete game and pick up opening principles, basic tactics and endings. Children are placed by working level, so a first-time player and an experienced tournament player are never mixed in the same batch.
What happens at the free demo session?
The complimentary 30-minute demo includes a level check before you commit. The coach assesses where your child currently stands, you both experience a live session, and you can test your internet connection at the booked hour. There is no payment and no obligation to continue afterwards.
How big are the group batches?
Group batches are strictly 4-6 similarly-rated students, with intense peer play, group calculation and team-based tactical work across 12-week synchronized batches. If you prefer full individual attention, the 1:1 Analyst Protocol gives your child a private coach for every session instead.
Is there a path to real tournaments?
Yes. Tournament prep is a dedicated level where your child understands the event, repairs the game plan, rehearses tournament conditions and reviews the evidence afterwards. Families typically reach a first tournament in around 4 months. Home slots hold when the school week starts running long.
