Chess in Balasore: Station Club Rapid and Blitz
Balasore District Chess Association organised the Odisha State Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2024-25 in association with Balasore Station Club. Play ran from 12 to 14 January 2025 at Station Club, Station Road, with nine rounds in each section: Rapid 15 minutes plus 10 seconds, Blitz 3 minutes plus 2 seconds. The first two Rapid finishers and the first two Blitz finishers qualified for the National Rapid and Blitz Championships. Group batches are strictly capped at 4-6 similarly-rated students, so your child shares the coach with at most five peers placed at the same working level. Is there a real curriculum from beginner to rated play?
Yes. The ladder runs from ages 5-8, 9-12 and 13-15 tracks through beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, then tournament prep and rating improvement. A beginner works from the board and legal moves toward complete games and basic tactics, while advanced students audit their play and convert training into events.

How will I know it is working?
You receive a weekly WhatsApp report for every student, naming what was covered and how your child is progressing. You do not need to know chess to read it. Group classes also track individual understanding each week, and 1:1 students get targeted homework reviewed at the next session.

Is it safe, and can I see the classes?
Classes are live online from your home, so your child never travels to an unfamiliar room. You can sit nearby or drop in during the session, and the weekly WhatsApp report shows exactly what each class covered. For the youngest ages, an adult may sit in for the opening minutes before the child works alone with the coach.

Can we try before paying?
Yes. Your child starts with one free 30-minute demo, and that single session is also the level check where the coach places them, with no payment first. Use the demo on the same network your child would use for regular classes, so you know the connection in your home can carry live video before you buy anything.

What if we stop?
Cancel a Balasore monthly plan within 48 hours of enrolling and the fee is a full refund. If your child stops after 48 hours and before the 3rd session, a pro-rated amount minus sessions attended still comes back, then the month is kept while cancelling stops future charges. Will the timings fit our week?
Coach availability windows run across the day in IST: mornings from 9:30 AM-1:30 PM, midday from 12:30-5:30 PM, and evenings up to 4:30-9:30 PM. What do I have to do at home?
Very little. For young children, five to ten focused minutes work better than a long block: set up the board, solve two positions, stop while they are interested. Children in the 9-12 and 13-15 tracks save one serious game a week and arrive with a single honest question for the coach. You do not need to know chess yourself.
