Bookable class times for Surrey
Our coaches teach from India. These are the weekly windows we can actually staff for Canada — shown in your local time and the coach's time (IST). You book a fixed weekly slot.
| Slot | Your local time | Coach time (IST) |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday early-morning | Mon–Fri 6:30–8:00 AM PT | 7:00–8:30 PM IST |
| Weekend morning | Sat–Sun 8:00–9:00 AM PT | 8:30–9:30 PM IST |
Why Surrey families choose online coaching
Surrey had 212,680 South Asian residents in the 2021 Census, representing 37.8% of the city. Families can choose live coaching in English or Hindi, keep the same FIDE-rated coach each week, and receive a WhatsApp progress report without travelling across the city.
Surrey is on Pacific Time, so the Eastern-time windows shown on the Canada country page do not apply here. The realistic, staffable pattern is Monday–Friday 6:30–8:00 AM PT (7:00–8:30 PM IST) and Saturday–Sunday 8:00–9:00 AM PT (8:30–9:30 PM IST) — weekday afternoons and evenings are not offered because they fall in the middle of the Indian night. Coaches teach from India, so these early-morning and weekend windows are the honest fit for a Pacific-time household, not a weekday after-school promise.
Honest pricing
ChessWize keeps one price list in Indian rupees (from ₹2,500 for 8 classes). Your card is simply charged the equivalent in your local currency at checkout, so there is no separate or inflated overseas rate. At recent rates that is roughly 5–17 CAD per class depending on the plan; the exact charge follows the live exchange rate.

Beyond the moves — the habits parents notice at home and school.
Focus that carries over
A full game is a 30–60 minute concentration workout. Coaches build it up gradually — most parents notice it first at homework time.
Confidence from real play
Wins are earned against real opponents, and losses get reviewed calmly with the coach — both build a child who isn't afraid to think.
Progress you can actually see
Every week your coach sends a WhatsApp report: what was taught, what improved, what to practise next.

Chess for kids in Surrey
Surrey is a distinct family market within Greater Vancouver: its 37.8% South Asian share is much higher than the Vancouver CMA share of 14.2% recorded in the same research. A child can use a fixed online lesson for structured improvement and add suitable local over-the-board play separately for practice with a physical board, clock, and unfamiliar opponents.
Online vs local classes in Surrey
ChessWize has no physical centre in Surrey; every class is live online. Local face-to-face play can provide social and tournament experience, while online coaching offers the same FIDE-rated coach, a 1:1 option or a six-child cap, and no additional journey across Surrey.

We had been searching for a chess class online for our sons. Suddenly on instagram , we saw the ad for chesswize and connected with the them. The demo was really good and we started the classes for our almost 4.7 year old son. Ankit Rajoriya Sir engaged him really well , he very knowlegeble in his field. His classes are well structured and he teaches the concepts in simple and engaging manner. My son has started loving chess and has started applying the strategies. The environment of the class is really positive where kids feel safe asking questions and their queries are answered well. We truly appreciate his professionalism, dedication, and commitment towards his students. We highly recommend Chesswize and Ankit Rajoriya Sir to any parent looking for chess classes for their kids.

Ankit sir is a wonderful coach especially for younger kids.He knows the game deeply but also teaches with patience, encouragement, and real passion. He explains ideas in a clear and easy way, so children can understand and use them in their games. His classes are well-planned, fun, and motivating. Coach Ankit has been amazing for my 8-year-old. He’s super friendly and explains chess rules in a way kids actually get. My son looks forward to every Chesswize class now. He motivates him to do better without any pressure, and I’ve seen fast improvement in both his game and confidence. Highly recommend Ankit for young beginners!

Online chess classes in Surrey: common questions
What class times can a Surrey family book in Pacific Time?
The staffed pattern is Monday–Friday 6:30–8:00 AM PT (7:00–8:30 PM IST) and Saturday–Sunday 8:00–9:00 AM PT (8:30–9:30 PM IST). Weekday afternoons and evenings are not offered because they fall overnight in India. Confirm your preferred hour at the free 30-minute demo.
Can my child attend a ChessWize centre in Surrey?
No. ChessWize is live online only and has no Surrey premises. Children aged 5–15 learn with a FIDE-rated coach in English or Hindi, either 1:1 or in a group of no more than six, and the same coach continues each week.
Why offer a Surrey page separately from Vancouver?
Surrey itself had 212,680 South Asian residents, or 37.8% of the city, in the 2021 Census. This page gives Surrey families the correct Pacific-time scheduling explanation and local context rather than treating every Canadian household as if it followed Toronto time.
Why can't Surrey get a weekday-evening class the way Toronto sometimes can?
Surrey is on Pacific Time, the widest gap from IST among ChessWize's Canadian markets. A genuine weekday-evening class there would require coaches in India to teach through the night, which we will not promise and then fail to deliver. The honest windows — early weekday mornings (7:00–8:30 PM IST) and weekend mornings (8:30–9:30 PM IST) — are the hours that fall inside a normal evening in India.
