Why Calgary families choose online coaching
The Calgary CMA had about 153,200 South Asian residents in the 2021 Census. ChessWize gives Calgary families access to live English- or Hindi-language coaching from home, with one assigned FIDE-rated coach and a weekly WhatsApp progress update for parents.
Calgary follows Mountain Time, not the Eastern Time used on the Canada country page. The honest, staffable pattern is Saturday–Sunday 8:00–10:00 AM MT (7:30–9:30 PM IST) and Monday–Friday 6:30–8:00 AM MT (6:00–7:30 PM IST) — weekday afternoons and evenings are not offered, since coaches teach from India and those hours fall overnight IST. Weekend mornings and early weekday mornings are the realistic fit for a Mountain-time household.
Honest pricing
ChessWize keeps one price list in Indian rupees (from ₹2,500 for 8 classes). Your card is simply charged the equivalent in your local currency at checkout, so there is no separate or inflated overseas rate. At recent rates that is roughly 5–17 CAD per class depending on the plan; the exact charge follows the live exchange rate.

Beyond the moves — the habits parents notice at home and school.
Focus that carries over
A full game is a 30–60 minute concentration workout. Coaches build it up gradually — most parents notice it first at homework time.
Confidence from real play
Wins are earned against real opponents, and losses get reviewed calmly with the coach — both build a child who isn't afraid to think.
Progress you can actually see
Every week your coach sends a WhatsApp report: what was taught, what improved, what to practise next.

Chess for kids in Calgary
Calgary's approximately 153,200 South Asian residents make it one of the documented Canadian metro markets for families seeking familiar India-based coaching. Structured online lessons can cover analysis and guided practice each week, while families remain free to add suitable local over-the-board games for physical-board and competition experience.
Online vs local classes in Calgary
There is no ChessWize centre in Calgary. In-person chess may suit families looking mainly for local opponents; live online coaching is the option for a fixed FIDE-rated coach, 1:1 attention or a strict six-player maximum, and a routine that does not require another drive.

We had been searching for a chess class online for our sons. Suddenly on instagram , we saw the ad for chesswize and connected with the them. The demo was really good and we started the classes for our almost 4.7 year old son. Ankit Rajoriya Sir engaged him really well , he very knowlegeble in his field. His classes are well structured and he teaches the concepts in simple and engaging manner. My son has started loving chess and has started applying the strategies. The environment of the class is really positive where kids feel safe asking questions and their queries are answered well. We truly appreciate his professionalism, dedication, and commitment towards his students. We highly recommend Chesswize and Ankit Rajoriya Sir to any parent looking for chess classes for their kids.

Coach Ankit has been amazing for my 8-year-old. He’s super friendly and explains chess rules in a way kids actually get. My son looks forward to every Chesswize class now. He motivates him to do better without any pressure, and I’ve seen fast improvement in both his game and confidence. Highly recommend Ankit for young beginners!

Online chess classes in Calgary: common questions
Does the Canada timetable show the right hours for Calgary?
The country page displays the confirmed Eastern-time pilot windows, while Calgary is on Mountain Time. For Calgary, ChessWize offers Saturday–Sunday 8:00–10:00 AM MT (7:30–9:30 PM IST) and Monday–Friday 6:30–8:00 AM MT (6:00–7:30 PM IST) instead.
How are Calgary families charged for live chess coaching?
ChessWize bills in INR, and your payment provider converts the charge to its local-currency equivalent in CAD. There is no invented Calgary price. The free 30-minute demo requires no payment, and families can then choose live 1:1 coaching or a batch capped at six.
Will a Calgary child keep the same coach and receive feedback?
Yes. One FIDE-rated coach stays with the child each week rather than rotating between lessons. Coaching is available in English or Hindi, and parents receive a WhatsApp report explaining progress and what the child should practise next.
Why does Calgary get Mountain-time slots instead of the Eastern table?
Calgary is genuinely in the Mountain time zone, which sits between Central and Pacific. Coaches teach from India and cannot staff Calgary weekday afternoons or evenings without teaching overnight, so the real windows are weekend mornings (7:30–9:30 PM IST) and early weekday mornings before school (6:00–7:30 PM IST) — the hours that land inside a working evening in India.
