Why Ottawa families choose online coaching

Ottawa children aged 5–15 can learn live online with a FIDE-rated coach in English or Hindi. Lessons are 1:1 or in batches capped at six, the coach stays the same each week, and parents receive a WhatsApp report covering progress and what to practise.

For Ottawa families, online coaching removes travel and opens access to a coach in India without pretending every local hour works. ChessWize can staff Eastern-time weekend mornings and a 7–8am weekday pre-school lesson. Ottawa weekday after-school and evening classes are not offered because they fall overnight in India.

Honest pricing

ChessWize keeps one price list in Indian rupees (from ₹2,500 for 8 classes). Your card is simply charged the equivalent in your local currency at checkout, so there is no separate or inflated overseas rate. At recent rates that is roughly 5–17 CAD per class depending on the plan; the exact charge follows the live exchange rate.

What chess training builds

Beyond the moves — the habits parents notice at home and school.

Focus that carries over

A full game is a 30–60 minute concentration workout. Coaches build it up gradually — most parents notice it first at homework time.

Confidence from real play

Wins are earned against real opponents, and losses get reviewed calmly with the coach — both build a child who isn't afraid to think.

Progress you can actually see

Every week your coach sends a WhatsApp report: what was taught, what improved, what to practise next.

Who actually teaches

Chess for kids in Ottawa

Ottawa families are part of Canada’s national chess system, governed by the Chess Federation of Canada, and can look to local organizers for over-the-board play. Live online coaching provides a stable weekly learning routine; physical events remain useful for practising notation, clock use, and playing unfamiliar opponents. Ottawa's RA Chess Club — one of the oldest and largest chess clubs in Canada — welcomes youth players at its Thursday tournament nights and Sunday rapid afternoons at the RA Centre, which also stages the Eastern Ontario Open. In July 2026 the city hosts both the Canadian Youth Chess Championship (July 6-10) and the Canadian Open, organized by the Eastern Ontario Chess Association.

Online vs local classes in Ottawa

ChessWize does not operate an Ottawa centre. A nearby in-person club can be a good fit for regular face-to-face games. ChessWize is the online option for families who prefer a consistent FIDE-rated coach, 1:1 lessons or a maximum of six children, and a weekend-morning session at home.

We had been searching for a chess class online for our sons. Suddenly on instagram , we saw the ad for chesswize and connected with the them. The demo was really good and we started the classes for our almost 4.7 year old son. Ankit Rajoriya Sir engaged him really well , he very knowlegeble in his field. His classes are well structured and he teaches the concepts in simple and engaging manner. My son has started loving chess and has started applying the strategies. The environment of the class is really positive where kids feel safe asking questions and their queries are answered well. We truly appreciate his professionalism, dedication, and commitment towards his students. We highly recommend Chesswize and Ankit Rajoriya Sir to any parent looking for chess classes for their kids.

We are very happy with the coaching at Chesswize, especially with our son’s teacher, Ankit Rajoriya. Ankit sir is a wonderful coach especially for younger kids.He knows the game deeply but also teaches with patience, encouragement, and real passion. He explains ideas in a clear and easy way, so children can understand and use them in their games. His classes are well-planned, fun, and motivating. Since our son started learning with Ankit sir, we have seen big improvements in his chess skills, thinking ability, focus, and confidence. He creates a friendly environment where kids feel comfortable asking questions and are inspired to keep getting better. We truly value his dedication and care for each student. We strongly recommend Chesswize and Ankit Rajoriya sir to any parent who wants quality chess coaching for their child.

Coach Ankit has been amazing for my 8-year-old. He’s super friendly and explains chess rules in a way kids actually get. My son looks forward to every Chesswize class now. He motivates him to do better without any pressure, and I’ve seen fast improvement in both his game and confidence. Highly recommend Ankit for young beginners!

Online chess classes in Ottawa: common questions

What will an Ottawa family pay for ChessWize coaching?

ChessWize fees are billed in INR, and the payment provider charges the local-currency equivalent in CAD at roughly the same value. We do not invent a separate Ottawa price. Fees depend on whether you select 1:1 coaching or a batch capped at six. Try the free 30-minute demo without payment first; unused paid classes are refundable under the plan terms.

Is live online chess useful, or does ChessWize have an Ottawa centre?

ChessWize is live online only, with no physical Ottawa centre. The child works with the same FIDE-rated coach weekly rather than watching recordings, and parents receive a WhatsApp progress report. Ottawa families can combine this structured instruction with local over-the-board games when they want face-to-face play, clock practice, or Chess Federation of Canada-rated competition.

Does the Ottawa school calendar or daylight saving affect lesson times?

The available windows stay defined in Eastern Time: weekend mornings and 7–8am on a weekday before school. Canada and India change clocks differently, so the corresponding India time shifts during the year; ChessWize confirms the current weekly ET slot. We do not move families into weekday evenings when clocks change, because that window is not staffable from India.
