What this Patna class is
ChessWize is a live online chess class for children aged 5–15, offered to families in Patna. A named coach teaches on a video call and shared digital board; this is not an in-person branch.
ChessWize is online only and has no local centre in Patna.
Who the format fits
It fits families with a beginner through a rated player who can keep a recurring IST time agreed after the level check, want a group capped at six or a one-to-one lesson, and want one regular coach. It does not fit a family that needs a walk-in classroom in Patna.
Online chess for Patna children, built around fixed weekly slots
ChessWize teaches Patna children live online from age five to fifteen, with experienced coaches: Hrdyansh Pandey, Tarun Gupta and Aryan Pal. Your child is placed by working level, either in exclusive, skill-matched batches of 4-6 students or one-to-one in the 1:1 Analyst Protocol. Whichever format you choose, the coach does not rotate: the same person takes every session and follows the same games.
The ladder is real. Beginners learn the board, legal moves and a first complete game; intermediate students stabilise tactical vision and choose candidate moves; advanced players deepen calculation and convert training into events. Age tracks cover ages 5-8, ages 9-12 and ages 13-15, and dedicated tournament prep sits at the top. You are never left guessing: every student gets a weekly WhatsApp report. One ChessWize parent, Monika Iyer, described the effect plainly: 'I don't know chess, but I can see exactly what she covered each week.'
Start with the starter pack: ₹2,500 for 8 classes. Regular plans afterwards run from ₹375 to ₹1,000 per class depending on the plan. Before any payment, the demo is complimentary, and the first class comes with its own promise: Complimentary 30-min level check before you commit. Term packages in Patna allow a refund minus sessions attended within 7 days of enrolling; after 7 days there is no refund, and leftover sessions stay available until the term ends.
The fit for Patna is practical. There is no Bailey Road or Boring Road round trip after tuition, the class happens on screen at a fixed weekly slot, and the structured, feedback-driven study rhythm Bihar's coaching culture already expects carries straight into chess. So far: 1,000 students coached and 1,500 parents. The programme holds 5.0 across 21 Google reviews. Book the complimentary 30-min demo, meet the coach, and see the first class before you decide anything.
Chess in Patna: younger age groups and rated competition
Patna's tournament records give parents examples at different ages. Youth Hostel on Frazor Road hosted the Bihar State Under-7 boys championship in April 2025. The 2026 Bihar Open prospectus listed Patliputra Sports Complex Indoor Stadium in Kankarbagh for 25-29 March, with boys' and girls' Under-7 through Under-15 sections announced alongside the open category. Those details help a family distinguish an age-group competition from the broader rated-event setting.

Where to play
From online class to a first tournament
- Consult the All Bihar Chess Association website for a suitable age-group circular before planning a Patna tournament entry.
- Compare your child's eligibility with the stated sections rather than assuming an open event and an age-group event have identical entry conditions.
- Read registration requirements together, noting that the March 2026 Bihar Open required AICF registration and, for Bihar players, ABCA registration for 2025-2026.
- Practise finishing a complete game on a board with a clock at home, then review that game in online lessons before travelling to a hall.
- Confirm the reporting time and building address with the organiser before setting out.

Class times for Patna
Patna runs on India Standard Time (IST), and IST is the label on every window: there is no daylight-shifted variant to track, so a window written in IST is exactly the time you book in Patna. Coach availability stretches from 9:30 AM-1:30 PM IST in the morning, through 11:30 AM-2:30 PM IST, 11:30 AM-3:30 PM IST, 12:30-5:30 PM IST and 1:30-4:30 PM IST around midday and afternoon, to 2:30-5:30 PM IST, 4:30-6:30 PM IST, 5:30-8:30 PM IST and 4:30-9:30 PM IST in the evening. Pick the window that clears school, homework and tuition, and that slot stays fixed at the same time every week.

Recorded programme results
As of 2026-07-13, the trust record lists 1,000 students coached and 1,500 parents, with 4 district finishers in a cohort of 12 and an average of 4 months to a first tournament. These are past records, not a promise for one child.
How classes run
Your child keeps the same coach in a supervised small group, and a parent can sit in on any lesson. Read the full policy on the child safety page.
At home you need a laptop or tablet with a webcam and stable internet. Classes run in the browser. Setup details are on the online chess classes page.
The first meeting is a free 30-minute level check. Paid classes start only after you enrol and agree a recurring time.
The four published commitments
- Same coach every session — no rotation
- Full refund within 48 hours of enrolling on a monthly plan
- Complimentary 30-min level check before you commit
- Weekly WhatsApp report for every student
Refund wording is on the refund policy.
Eleven checks to make before enrolling
Each answer below is tied to the section that carries its proof, so a parent can verify the detail rather than rely on a slogan.
-
Check 1
Who teaches my child, and are they rated?
Classes are taught by experienced coaches: Hrdyansh Pandey, Tarun Gupta and Aryan Pal. Your child keeps the same coach every session, so the person reviewing the games knows their habits. The complimentary 30-min level check lets you meet that coach before you commit to any plan.
See coaches -
Check 2
How many children share the coach?
Group batches are strictly 4-6 students, placed together by similar rating so games stay competitive. Batches run as 12-week synchronized groups with intense peer-play, group calculation and team-based tactical warfare. When you want the coach entirely on your child's game, the 1:1 Analyst Protocol provides private sessions instead.
See class size -
Check 3
Is there a real curriculum from beginner to rated play?
Yes. The ladder runs from beginner (board and legal moves, first complete game, opening principles, basic tactics and endings) through intermediate and advanced tracks, with separate age roadmaps for ages 5-8, ages 9-12 and ages 13-15. Further up sit tournament-prep and a rating-improvement track that names the rating bottleneck, trains, retests and reviews the trend.
See the curriculum -
Check 4
How will I know it is working?
You receive a WhatsApp report every week; it is a standing guarantee covering every student, not an occasional extra. Because the same coach takes each session, consecutive reports continue one story instead of restarting with a substitute. You can follow what was covered without knowing chess yourself, which is exactly what one parent said made the difference: seeing what's working, week by week.
See progress reports -
Check 5
Is it safe, and can I see the classes?
Classes are live online from your own home, so supervision stays with you: younger children may keep an adult nearby for the first few minutes and then work directly with the coach. There is no physical centre to drop your child at, and the same coach appears every session, so the adult on screen is a familiar one. The weekly report tells you what was covered.
Read safety policy -
Check 6
Can we try before paying?
Yes, at no cost. Book the complimentary 30-min demo and your child's first class doubles as a level check, run before you commit to any payment. It places the child on the right rung, beginner through advanced, and you only pick a starter pack or regular plan after you have watched the coach teach.
See the level check -
Check 7
What if we stop?
A monthly plan in Patna allows a full refund if you cancel within 48 hours of enrolling, then a pro-rated refund minus sessions attended until the 3rd class, after which the current month stays billed and cancelling only stops later charges. Cancel a session at least 4 hours ahead and a make-up is scheduled free, and the same policy covers batch and 1:1 students.
See refund terms -
Check 8
Will the timings fit our week?
Yes. You book a fixed weekly slot around school and tuition. Coach availability windows run from 9:30 AM-1:30 PM IST in the morning, through 11:30 AM-3:30 PM IST and 12:30-5:30 PM IST around midday, and into the evening with 4:30-6:30 PM IST, 5:30-8:30 PM IST and 4:30-9:30 PM IST. Because the class happens at home, a one-hour lesson stays one hour instead of growing into an evening outing.
See class times -
Check 9
What does it cost, exactly?
Two figures, kept separate. The starter pack is ₹2,500 for 8 classes. Regular plans after the starter pack run from ₹375 to ₹1,000 per class depending on the plan. The demo and the level check that precede both carry no charge.
See fees -
Check 10
Is there a path to tournaments?
The All Bihar Chess Association, on AICF's affiliate list with its secretary's address at Anisabad, is the body to watch for later city play. The Bihar Open FIDE Rating tournament was scheduled at Patliputra Sports Complex Indoor Stadium in Kankarbagh. Check the chosen event's requirements before you enter. On average, students reach a first tournament in about four months.
See results -
Check 11
What do I have to do at home?
Little, and none of it needs chess knowledge from you. Younger children do five to ten focused minutes: set up the board, show how one piece moves, solve two familiar positions, and stop while they are still interested. Older students save one serious game a week and keep a short error log. Adults should resist correcting every move; that is the coach's job in class.

Honestly, I was skeptical about online chess coaching.
“Aadvik hated sitting still for anything, and I thought a Zoom class would last two weeks max. It's been six months. Last Sunday his class teacher called just to ask what changed — his attention in maths has jumped. He now does his puzzles before I'm up. Coach Arjun has the patience I don't.”

She used to cry after every loss. Not anymore.
“Anika was playing 'casually' on chess.com and hanging pieces every game. First month the coach just drilled Checks-Captures-Threats. The dashboard is what sold me though. I don't know chess, but I can see exactly what she covered each week. Her play sharpened on its own by week eight.”

Read on Google →Why the online format fits Patna
Patna is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, tracing its history to ancient Pataliputra, and today serves as Bihar's capital and largest centre for education and administration.
A live online class avoids an extra evening trip along Bailey Road or Boring Road. Live online coaching lets a Patna student train with a qualified coach without adding a commute to an already demanding school day.
Local chess context
Bihar's education culture places enormous emphasis on structured, disciplined study, from its competitive schooling environment to its strong coaching-institute tradition for competitive exams. That same discipline transfers well to chess, where a clear weekly curriculum and consistent feedback produce steady, measurable progress.
Patna’s coaching-institute culture already trains families to respect fixed slots and weekly feedback; chess fits that habit when the lesson is on screen instead of another Bailey Road round trip after tuition.
Online and offline choices
A strong local batch near home can work if it is close and the coach is stable. Online is usually the cleaner choice when the child already has evening tuition, or when Boring Road traffic turns a one-hour class into a three-hour outing.

Questions from parents in Patna
Has Patna hosted a state event for Under-7 children?
The Bihar State U07 Boys Chess Championship 2025-26 took place at Youth Hostel on Frazor Road in Patna. Its record gives 09:00 on 25 April 2025 as the reporting time. This is evidence of a boys' age-group event in the city; it does not establish the schedule or sections of another edition.
Which registrations did the Bihar Open ask families to check?
The prospectus for the Bihar Open listed for 25-29 March 2026 made AICF registration for 2025-2026 compulsory for Indian players, through prs.aicf.in. Bihar players also needed ABCA registration for that year. Keep both requirements in view when reading that document, and use the event-specific circular to check requirements for another tournament.
Kitna fee hota hai ChessWize Patna online chess classes ka?
₹375 per class se shuru. Live class — 1:1 ya maximum 6 bachchon ka batch — experienced coach, har hafte wahi coach, WhatsApp par weekly parent report. Monthly plan 48 ghante mein cancel karo to refund milta hai, aur teesri session se pehle pro-rated minus attended classes handle hota hai. Pehle free 30-minute demo aur level check; uske liye payment nahi, isliye aap pehle style dekh ke package decide kar sakte ho.
Patna mein ChessWize ka offline centre hai kya?
Nahi. ChessWize sirf live online hai — Patna ya kisi aur city mein physical centre nahi. Ghar se video class, English ya Hindi, umar 5–15. Jo parents school club prefer karte hain woh alag se use kar sakte hain; humari side Bailey Road–Boring Road jaisa evening commute hataati hai aur fixed coach rakhti hai.
Board exams ke season mein chess band karna padega?
Zaruri nahi. Short weekly slot school timetable ke around book hota hai, jisse Kankarbagh ya Boring Road par extra travel nahi jodna padta. Free demo se level clear hota hai; aap intensity kam-zyada decide kar sakte ho bina poora programme chhode, aur exams ya travel par pause se remaining sessions rakh li jati hain.
Parents ko progress kaise pata chalega?
Har hafte WhatsApp parent report milti hai. Same coach har session mein rehta hai, isliye feedback continuous hota hai, random substitute nahi. Programme Google par 5.0 (21 reviews) rated hai — reviews overall programme ke hain, local branch ke nahi. Demo se aap khud dekh lena fit hai ya nahi.
How much does the starter pack cost, and what comes after it?
You begin with the starter pack at ₹2,500 for 8 classes. Regular plans only start afterwards, priced from ₹375 up to ₹1,000 per class depending on the plan. The demo and the level check before any of this cost nothing.
Does ChessWize have an offline centre in Patna?
No. ChessWize is live online only, so there is no physical centre in Patna or anywhere else. Your child joins by video from home, in English or Hindi, from age 5 to 15. If the school already runs a chess club, your child can keep attending that too; our classes remove the evening commute and keep the same coach each week.
Will the timings fit around school and evening tuition?
In practice, yes. You pick one fixed slot each week, and coach windows run from late morning into the evening, so the lesson can follow school or follow tuition instead of competing with either. Since there is no travel, a one-hour class finishes in one hour rather than becoming an outing through Boring Road traffic.
What happens to classes during board exam season?
You do not have to choose between exams and chess. The weekly slot is booked around the school timetable, intensity can be lowered without leaving the programme, and the coach can trim homework volume for a few weeks while keeping the main training thread alive. Patna families can pause for board exams, holidays or travel, and the remaining sessions are kept.
Which language are the classes taught in?
English or Hindi, whichever your child follows more comfortably. The weekly structure does not change with the language: one fixed slot, the same coach each session, one clear idea taught and practised, and a WhatsApp report to you at the end of the week. Tell us your preference when you book the demo.
How quickly will we see progress toward tournaments?
Progress is reported weekly, so you see covered material every week rather than at term's end. For tournament goals, our cohort average is 4 months from joining to a first tournament. The rating-improvement track retests along the way so the trend is visible.
Who are the coaches, and how strong are they as players?
Your child trains with a coach: Hrdyansh Pandey, Tarun Gupta, or Aryan Pal. You meet the coach in the complimentary 30-min demo before any payment, and the same person takes every session after that, so feedback stays continuous.
What should we keep ready at home before each session?
Very little. A device with a working connection and login, a board, a notebook and water should be ready before the class starts, so the session does not lose its opening minutes to passwords or missing pieces. Younger children may want an adult nearby at first; after a few minutes they work directly with the coach.
Do batches work for a child who is quiet in groups?
They can. Participation can begin with written answers or moves on the board rather than speaking up, and you can tell the coach if shyness, language or pace is stopping your child from showing what they know. If a batch of 4-6 still feels too busy, the 1:1 Analyst Protocol gives your child the coach's full attention instead.
What happens to classes we have paid for but cannot use?
On a monthly plan in Patna, cancel within 48 hours of enrolling for a refund, in a batch or one-to-one alike. A heavy exam stretch or a missed week does not turn paid classes into forfeited money. Nothing extra is needed from you beyond telling the coach; the classes your child has not attended come back in full.
