Why Sharjah families choose online coaching
Sharjah has a large resident Indian community, many of whom commute daily to Dubai for work, which often leaves weekday evenings tight for cross-city activities. A live online chess class removes that travel element entirely, running straight from home at a fixed time each week. Chess for kids in Sharjah
Sharjah sits close enough to Dubai that families here can take part in the same UAE chess calendar, including the well-known annual Dubai Open, and several schools across the emirate run chess as an extracurricular option. Consistent coaching gives a child something concrete to build on in either setting. Sharjah has one of the UAE's most established chess ecosystems: the Sharjah Cultural & Chess Club — an official UAE Chess Federation club — fields junior squads from Under-8 to Under-20 at Arab youth championships and organises both the annual Sharjah Masters International Chess Championship (whose 2025 edition drew 350 players from 60 countries) and the long-running Sharjah International Chess Championship, now past its 27th edition. The city is also the birthplace of GM Salem Saleh, born in Sharjah in 1993, who earned the grandmaster title at 16 and tied for first at the inaugural Sharjah Masters in 2017.
Online vs local classes in Sharjah
ChessWize does not run a physical centre in Sharjah or anywhere else — coaching is online only. If a family already has a coach nearby through their child's school, there's no reason to change what's working. Online tends to help more when you're choosing between a long commute-adjacent evening and a fixed at-home slot, or when you want a FIDE-rated coach rather than whoever happens to be locally available.

Online chess classes in Sharjah: common questions
What is the cost of classes for a family based in Sharjah?
Pricing in India starts from Rs 375 per class. UAE families are billed in INR, with the card charged the local-currency equivalent at the live exchange rate — so it works out to roughly the same value, not an inflated overseas price. There's a free 30-minute demo first, and unused classes in a package can be refunded.
Is online really as effective as finding an offline chess centre in Sharjah?
ChessWize doesn't have a physical centre in Sharjah or any city — it's online only. For most children aged 5-15, a live video class with a FIDE-rated coach and a shared digital board, in a batch of up to 6 or 1:1, works just as well as sitting at a physical board, and it saves the evening commute.
Many of us commute to Dubai for work — can the class still fit our evening?
Yes. Because India is only 1.5 hours behind the UAE, weekday slots roughly between 4:30 and 9:30 PM your time are available even on a commute-heavy evening, and Saturday morning is there as a backup option. The slot is fixed weekly with the same coach, so you can plan around it in advance.
