- Audit the player's game. Recent tournament and online games are grouped by error type. The coach establishes priorities and distinguishes one-off mistakes from patterns that need a training block.
- Deepen calculation. Exercises include candidate selection, comparison of resulting positions, defensive resources, and stopping points. Accuracy and evaluation matter more than the number of moves calculated.
- Refine repertoire and strategy. Opening files are tied to model positions and likely opponents. Middlegame work covers pawn structures, exchanges, initiative, and transitions rather than memorisation alone.

Every coach clears a multi-step hiring process, and background verification — police clearance plus a reference check — is completed before they teach a child. Does my child need to know the rules before joining?
No. Complete beginners are welcome. The beginner roadmap starts with the board and legal moves, moves to finishing a first complete game, then opening principles, basic tactics and endings. For the youngest children, the ages 5-8 roadmap builds comfort with the board, safe move habits and short complete games. The complimentary 30-min level check confirms where to start.
How much practice does my child need at home?
For ages 5-8, five to ten focused minutes is plenty: set up the board, show how one piece moves, or solve two familiar positions, and stop while your child is still interested. Older children save one serious game a week and note confusing moments. A quiet child can answer in writing; tell the coach if pace or shyness gets in the way.
Why online coaching instead of a class near Srirangam or the Rockfort?
A nearby offline class is fine if the coach is genuinely close and the timing suits you. Online wins when school is on one side of the Kaveri and home is on the other: the crossing and the 5pm traffic leave the weekly routine entirely, and your child trains with the same rated coach from home on either bank.
