Class times for Shimla
Shimla keeps India Standard Time (IST) all year, and our windows are quoted in that same IST clock, so there is no daylight-saving shift to calculate. Coach availability runs 9:30 AM-1:30 PM IST in the morning and stretches through midday openings like 11:30 AM-3:30 PM IST and 12:30-5:30 PM IST, with the widest evening block at 4:30-9:30 PM IST and a late option at 5:30-8:30 PM IST. A 2:30-5:30 PM IST window bridges the afternoon for children finishing school later. How many children share the coach?
Batches hold strictly 4-6 similarly-rated children, matched by working level so nobody is padding the group. The 12-week synchronized format builds peer play, group calculation and team-based tactics inside that small circle. Families who want full attention can choose the 1:1 Analyst Protocol, where one coach maps a single child's game.

Is there a real curriculum from beginner to rated play?
There is a real ladder, not a pile of videos. Levels run from ages 5-8, 9-12 and 13-15 through beginner, intermediate and advanced, with tournament prep and rating improvement on top. A beginner works from legal moves to a finished game; advanced students convert training into events. Each roadmap has named stages you can ask to see.

How will I know it is working?

Is it safe, and can I see the classes?
Classes are live, on camera, with the same coach each week, and batches never exceed six children, so no session happens in an anonymous crowd. For younger ages a parent is welcome to sit close by, and the weekly WhatsApp report keeps you informed. The free demo doubles as your first safety check.

Can we try before paying?
Yes. Every Shimla family starts with a Complimentary 30-min demo, no payment attached, and the level check doubles as a real class sample so your child meets the coach before money changes hands. If the fit feels wrong, you simply stop there and owe nothing.

What if we stop?
Shimla monthly plans refund in full if you cancel within 48 hours of enrolling, then pro-rate minus attended sessions until the 3rd class. After that third class the month you are in stays billed, though cancelling ends later charges. If school exams, a house move or a lost evening routine interrupts chess, families can pause and remaining sessions are kept.

Will the timings fit our week?
Coach windows run from 9:30 AM-1:30 PM IST through 5:30-8:30 PM IST, all on IST itself, so a Shimla child trains after school with no commute eating the slot. If a connection drops or an exam week collides, you reschedule directly with the coach rather than losing the class. And the same coach holds that slot every week.

What do I have to do at home?
Very little, especially at the start. Young children do best with five to ten focused minutes between classes: set up the board, replay one idea, stop while it is still fun. Older students save a game link and note one confusing moment, which gives the coach real evidence for the next session.

What ages and levels do you teach?
Children from 5 to 15, organised into age bands of 5-8, 9-12 and 13-15, with skill tracks from beginner through intermediate and advanced. There is also one-to-one analyst work, tournament prep and rating improvement for students aiming at events. The demo level check places your child on the right rung before anything is booked.
Can two of my children join the same batch?
Siblings do not have to share a batch, because placement is by working level rather than age alone. If both children land at a similar level, they can sit in the same 4-6 group; if one is further ahead, each gets a batch that matches. The demo level check sorts this out for both children before any payment.
Does my child need to know chess already?
Not at all. The beginner roadmap starts from the board itself and legal moves, then moves to finishing a complete game, opening principles and basic tactics. Children who already play are placed higher after the level check, so a self-taught player on a chess site is not stuck repeating piece movements.
How many students have you coached so far?

What happens if our internet drops mid-class?
You message the coach and the class is moved to another slot in the same week; nothing is charged as attended. This is one more reason hill families choose online: a foggy evening costs a reschedule, never a drive. Keep the login and notebook ready so a restarted session picks up quickly.
Why the same coach every week instead of rotation?
Because continuity is where the teaching compounds. A coach who sees your child weekly remembers which openings confuse them and which habits keep returning, so each lesson starts from real knowledge rather than a recap. Rotation resets that memory every time, which is why we do not use it.
Are parents allowed to watch the classes?
You are welcome to sit within earshot, especially for ages 5-8, and many parents do for the first few sessions. Because batches stay small and the coach is the same person each week, there is no anonymous crowd to worry about. The weekly report covers anything you missed while working.
